Tampere Artist House is the oldest piece of real estate in Finland outside the Helsinki region constructed just for the needs of the visual artists. Artist House was established in 1961, but all the residents were in the house 1962. The owners of the house are Tampere Artists´ Association and The City of Tampere. In this building there are 10 ateliers for the professional artists living in Tampere.
In this book I am going through the main points of the house history during 1962-2012. I do also represent the artists living in the house with their art works.
My work is based on archive recearch, interviews and discussions with colleagues. The annual reports of the housing cooperative and the minutes of the board are the main written sources I have used. The interviews of the artists and their relatives, children and neighbours are opening viewpoints to the everyday life in Hälläpyöränkatu.
